WHAT IS A BONG?

A bong, also known as a hookah (a smaller version of a bong), is a type of smoking pipe in which the smoke is filtered through the water. The water reservoir (a vase or a chamber) has two functions: it cools the smoke down and partially eliminates the harmful substances. Each water pipe consists of: a mouthpiece, a smoke chamber connected to a water tank, a bowl, a clutch and a tube (also called a neck).

PARTS OF A BONG

A standard bong is divided into:

Mouthpiece – is used to inhale smoke;

Chamber – this is where the smoke gathers;

Water tank – as the name suggests, you should pour water into it;

Bowl – you should add hemp into it;

Clutch – it is a small hole in the chamber which, by clogging with a finger, cuts off the air supply to the smoke, so by releasing it, we are able to pull harder;

Tube – the element through which the smoke from the bowl meets the water in the water tank;

TYPES OF BONGS

There are following types of bongs and hookahs:

Glass bong – the most popular and best type of a hookah. It does not affect the taste of dried hemp and is easy to clean;

Silicone bong – the most comfortable bong and easy to use. They can be easily folded and taken outdoors. Made of safety-approved silicone, which is resistant to high temperatures and therefore does not emit toxic substances when used;

Acrylic bong – an ideal option for beginner smokers due to its low price. The only downside is the bottom gasket which likes to leak;

Metal bong – a solid bong for fans of outdoor smoking. It is resistant to falls, but unfortunately leaves a metallic aftertaste in the mouth (especially with frequent use);

Ceramic bong – this is the best option for those who like smoking at home. These are some of the most beautifully crafted bongs, massive and durable, but not suitable for outdoor use due to their weight;

Bamboo bong – extremely durable and exclusive-looking bong, often beautifully decorated. It is the perfect gift for your loved ones who already know the green topic enough to appreciate the simplicity of this hookah.

WHICH BONG SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

HOW TO SMOKE WITH A BONG?

Smoking from a bong is very easy. Below you will find an instruction that will guide you through the entire process from filling the bong with water to inhaling the smoke.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING A BONG:

Pour the water into a tank through the mouthpiece. Ideally, it should be at room temperature and it should not exceed ⅔ of the tank. The bowl tube must be submerged enough to prevent air from entering it.

Grind the dried herbs using a grinder and fill the bowl with it. Remember not to compact the herbs too tightly, because it will result in worse burning of the material.

Set fire to the herbs with a lighter, block the clutch with your finger and, by putting your lips to the mouthpiece, inhale the smoke while releasing the clutch.

After the session is over, clean the bong and put it in a safe place. If you want the pleasure of smoking again and the life of your hookah, don’t hesitate to wash it. The longer it stays dirty, the harder it will be to clean.

HOW TO CLEAN A BONG?

If you want to clean the glass bong using home methods, you need isopropyl alcohol (or spirit) and coarse salt or rice. Pour the alcohol up to ⅕ of the chamber height, add a spoonful of salt or rice, plug all the holes (with a special cork or tape) and energetically shake the bong. After all the debris has been removed, you pour out all the contents and rinse the pipe with water.

For cleaning, you can also use chopped dishwasher cubes, which you just need to put into a bong, pour boiling water and set aside. Be sure to put the bong in a larger bowl before doing so, as the cube will begin to dissolve, ejecting foam through the holes in the pipe. Once the debris is removed, just rinse the pipe with water.

It is enough to put one teaspoon into the bong, pour hot water, and when all the dirt comes off, pour the contents into the toilet. The agent is corrosive and flammable, so keep it out of the reach of children and avoid contact with skin and eyes.

When cleaning a bong made of materials other than glass, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. Remember that isopropyl alcohol can react with various materials, destroying the structure of the bong and releasing toxic compounds that could enter our body when smoked again.
